The question who killed Sheikh Auwal Albani, the Zaria-based Islamic cleric and some members of his family last weekend will linger until the perpetrators of the evil act are apprehended and brought to book.
His gruesome murder is most unfortunate, dastardly and inhuman. The late Islamic scholar who was noted for his in-depth analyses on most aspect of the Quran and hadiths of the Holy Prophet could be seen as the general break down of the security situation in this country.
Many Nigerians, particularly the Muslim ummah would not forget the killing in similar circumstances of late Sheikh Ja’afar Adau in Kano some years back.
The question in the mind of many Nigerians is: what are the motives for the killing of some of these Islamic scholars who are revered by their ardent followers around the country and other parts of the world.
It behoves on the federal government to stem this tide of gruesome killings of our great Islamic clerics, who are known of preaching peace, unity and mutual understanding amongst various religious adherents in the country.
The security operative should spare no effort to unmask those behind these acts of spilling the blood of innocent citizens who are just expressing their God-given knowledge for the benefit of humanity.
