National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has described the defection of a governor of Kano state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a great historical epoch ever.
He stated this on Friday while addressing stakeholders and party supporters who converged on the residence of Shekarau to receive him, Oshiomhole said the “archaic days of politics of rigidity and extreme conservatism are over with such outdated ideological permutation put behind,” adding that “Shekarau by his pedigree and political antecedents is widely known for his progressive ideals and precepts.” Oshiomhole, who was accompanied by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and other top party functionaries, the APC considered the “defection of political dinosaurs like Ibrahim Shekarau as a great treasure,” adding “with people like him nothing would stand the progress of the party to checkmate the PDP in any contest.” Speaking in the same vein, Governor Ganduje said the defection of the former governor to the APC had confirmed his prediction that the future of the party was on the precipice waiting for its final requiem.
“I want this gathering to take note of the fact that we are from the same constituency. You are a bureaucrat and I am also a bureaucrat I am conversant with the trauma and tribulations you were subjected to when you were a permanent secretary under the leadership of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
You took everything in good faith and God eventually actualised your dream as a governor.
“You have defeated the man who had meted out all sort of humiliation to you and continued to progress up to your present political status.
You are returning to the house you built, natured and consolidated and we are all happy for this great accomplishment and landmark giant stride,” he said.
Responding, Shekarau said with his mastery of politics and the knowledge of statecraft, he had been able to discern all forms of conspiracy theories in attaining his enviable goals in the present political journey
