Shettima raises ward c’ttees on democracy dividends

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state has directed each of the 27 LGC Caretaker Committee chairmen to set up Ward Committees on Dividends of Democracy in each of the wards.
He also directed that members of the committees be between 10 and 15, depending on the sizes of the wards.
The governor, who gave the directive on Tuesday at the inauguration of the new 27 LGC caretaker committee chairmen, added that the committees should be saddled with the responsibilities of monitoring and ensuring that all existing boreholes function and provide water regularly to the people.
He said: “If I visit any local government area, I may assess any borehole outside my schedules and where I discover problems, I know those to hold responsible.  Our goal is to take services to the door steps of our citizens up till the last day of our tenure in office at Allah’s appointed time.
“And in discharging your obligations, let me remind you that you have the task of working hard in rebuilding Borno state, the task of fighting poverty through massive rural empowerment of youths and women in particular by way of training, supporting and providing them with startup capitals as individuals and cooperatives to own or sustain small and medium scale businesses.”
“Whatever your findings are, they should be addressed without compromising existing laws and in liaison with the Borno State Universal Basic Education Board and I should also be duly informed with straight forward facts where there are problems, through the Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs.”
