Shiites protests: Former IPAC boss advocates proactive policing

The former national chairman, Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and the Director General, National Taskforce to Combat Illegal Importation of Small Arms, Ammunitions, Light Weapons, Chemical Weapons and Pipelines Vandalisms (NATFORCE), Chief Emmanuel Okereke, has called on the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as the lead security agency in the country to always be proactive, in order to stem the tide of insecurity in Nigeria.

Okereke made the observation, while speaking on the invasion of the National Assembly by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) otherwise known as Shiites.

He said the group succeeded because of poor intelligence gathering and sharing among the security agencies stating:  “lack of information and intelligence gathering among security agencies led to what we saw on Tuesday. If there was synergy among these agencies as well as proactive policing what happened at National Assembly would not have happened.”

He decried the fact that the National Assembly premises could be invaded in such a way and manner, noting that “no place may be safe in Nigeria including the Aso Rock Villa.”

The NATFORCE boss urged the federal government to improve the funding and equipment of security agencies, noting that negative incidents like the Shiites protests could affect business and the economy.
