Shittu calls for investment in National Address System

Minister of Communications, Dr Adebayo Shittu has called for funding partners to actualize the National Addressing System (NAS).

He stated that the National Addressing System Committee should be proactive and strategize on how to attract funding partners for the implementation of the National Addressing System.

The minister stated this at the 2nd committee meeting of NAS held in Abuja, saying that government alone cannot fund the implementation and there is the need to attract funding partners to participate in the activities with shared benefits in focus.

He said there is urgent need to set up key addressing infrastructure items like National Addressing Data Ecosystem (NADE) approved by the National Economic Council last year.

“The system comprised of software that links all addressing data GIS offices in the 774 local government areas through their state offices to the national addressing database.

“It connects to the national database hence, National Bureau of Statistics portal is essential for the operation of the National Addressing System,” he said.

He stated that the assignments require human capital and proactive policy and the committee should view the various proposals and recommend appropriate measures to actualize proper addressing system for the nation.
