Shocker! Newcastle line up bid for Bale

Gareth Bale has become the latest big-name player linked with Newcastle ahead of the Premier League side’s £300million takeover.

Vast riches are potentially going to be invested into the transfer market if the Saudi Arabian-led consortium completes its deal to buy the Toon off Mike Ashley.

Exactly where those funds will be directed remains to be seen but a statement signing has been widely touted – despite the coronavirus crisis devastating football’s finances.

According to Marca, Real Madrid winger Bale is seen as a priority capture for Newcastle’s prospective new owners.

Los Blancos barred the Welshman from joining Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning last summer even though he had fallen out with coach Zinedine Zidane.

A reprieve of sorts this season has not yielded a productive return as Bale sits on just three goals from 18 appearances for second-placed Real.

The winger, 30, is thought to earn upwards of £350,000-a-week, an amount very few, if any, teams can match right now with his contract still having over two years left to run.

But Madrid are reportedly hoping to pull off a major squad overhaul this summer, including the sales of Bale, James Rodriguez and Lucas Vazquez.

It is thought any new Toon signing would have to be green lit by Mauricio Pochettino.

The ex-Tottenham boss is tipped to replace Steve Bruce once the takeover is completed, prompting a serious push towards the top end of the Premier League table.

Philippe Coutinho has also been named as a possible statement signing for the Magpies, the Barcelona winger possessin a big fan in Pochettino – who tried to sign him for Spurs.

Fellow Blaugrana player Arturo Vidal has been described as a target for the Tyneside team, as has Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly in a £70million deal.
