Shocker! UTME candidate with highest scores won’t get admission, says JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said its candidate with the highest scores in the just released Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), would not be admitted into the University of Lagos where the candidate chose as his first choice.

The best performing candidate, Ekene Franklin who hails from Imo state scored 347.

Giving reasons why Franklin would not be admitted into the university on Saturday in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede said the best candidate was 15 years old, which is below the mandatory age for University admission in the country.

“The best performing candidate in the 2019 UTME is Ekene Franklin from IMO state. He scored a total of 347 marks.

“However, he won’t be admitted into the University of Lagos because he is 15 years old which is below the mandatory age for admission into the university.

“The Senate of the University of Lagos will not admit such a candidate. Why would parents register their underaged children or wards for JAMB?,” Oloyede queried.

Earlier, the examination body released the results of 1,792,719 candidates who sat for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

However, the examination body withheld the results of 34,120 for various offences bordering on examination malpractice.

Oloyede advised candidates to use the phone numbers they used to enroll to text RESULT to 55019, saying there was no need to approach any Computer Based Test (CBT), or cyber café to check the results.

“Those who were absent got their registration cancelled or had their results withhold would be duly informed,” he said.
