Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has acknowledged the inadequate number of judges, saying it is not good for the state.
The governor stated this Tuesday at the swearing-in of two new High Court judges and two Khadis of the state Sharia Court of Appeal at Government House, Minna.
“We have always had a limited number of judges. I understand some of our judges are overwhelmed which is not good. Hopefully, we will get more judges to reduce the workload,” he said.
He commended the chief judge of the state, Justice Halima Abdulmalik, for her efforts at ensuring the appointments of the judges, saying, “this is a welcomed development.”
While congratulating the new judges, the governor reminded them of the huge task ahead.
He said, “While I congratulate you, I must also draw your attention to the huge task of your assignment. You need to know the weight of the assignment and I hope this will be of benefit to the state and the country.”
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn judges and khadis, Justice Aisha Wodu Bawa, assured that they will continue to do their best in serving the course of justice, emphasising that dedication, hard work and patience pays.
Other newly appointed judges include Justice Isaac Ndagana Jiya, who was with ICPC before his appointment, Khadi Shuhu Yunusa and Khadi Mohammed Isah Dalibi.
