Delta state Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged 2019 Batch ‘C’ Corps members to shun religious fanaticism, corruption which he said have hindered the developmental strides as a nation.
Governor Okowa stated this at the combined swearing-in of the 2019 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 Corps members deployed to Delta and Anambra States at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku, Anaocha North Local Government Area of the state.
Dr Okowa said as future leaders, they should contribute to the realization of the fulfilment of the collective aspiration as a people.
The governor, represented by the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare assured the Corps members that his administration would ensure that their welfare is adequately catered for, in the course of their service in the state.
According to him , “This administration has successfully embarked on renovation work on existing structures, built new ones with modern facilities, which include a brand new clinic and the 700- bed space corps members’ hostel nearing completion. These facilities will make orientation exercise stress-free.”
Earlier, the Area Coordinator NYSC South South, Mr. Omotade Benjamin said that Delta NYSC has fully registered two thousand, three hundred and fifty-six (2,356) prospective corps members.
Omotade also the NYSC Delta State Coordinator said that 1,092 are males and 1,184 are females Corps members deployed to Delta State, while 36 males and 44 females are those Corps members deployed to Anambra state.
According to Omotade, “This is another special orientation course. Here gathered with corps members deployed in Delta State and some Corps members deployed also to Anambra State but are camping here in Delta for the three-week induction and training.”
Area Coordinator noted that Anambra State Corps members would return to their state of deployment at the end of orientation course to continue with the remaining phases of the service year.
On his part, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Chiedu Ebie enjoined Corps members to be active and participate fully in the programmes and activities for proper assimilation that would give them the ability to undertake a hitch-free service year.
Mr. Ebie assured them that the state has been made conducive for their primary assignment and community mobilization for development.
