Skills acquisition: NDE trains 50 unemployed youth, women in Yobe

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Tuesday flagged-off its Quick Fix programme at the Federal Secretariat Conference Hall, Damaturu, Yobe state.

Blueprint gathered that the four-week training organised under the Vocational Skills Department (VSD) will train 50 youths and women on different skills acquisition in the state.

The Director General of NDE, Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, represented by Yobe state coordinator, John Tumba Kwaji, described the skills as marketable which services were in high demand internationally.

The training is aimed at empowering selected beneficiaries with more knowledge on demand driving skills such as; cap making, paint work, beats making, knitting and vulcanising respectively.

He charged the beneficiaries to put more attention and learn the skills well as it has alots of benefits from it.

Fikpo noted that, “the quick fix program’s objective was to create employment for the teeming unemployed in the country to have a source of livelihood and generate income for their families and add value to society”.

Earlier in his remarks, the director, Vocational Skills Department (VSD), Alhaji Isa Audu, represented by Mustapha Yakasai, said the 50 women were carefully selected and would be trained on different trade for them to be self-reliant and create wealth for themselves.

He described the demand driven skills as simple to learn, saying that, “NDE has selected experienced and professional trainers to ensure high standards.”

According to him, the trainees would be monitored to ensure attendance of 90 per cent, saying beneficiaries who score below might not be considered for any NDE programme.
