Slain farmers: Vigilante Group of Nigeria makes case for community policing

The Vigilante Group of Nigeria has condemned the killing of 43 Borno farmers by Boko Haram terrorists, even as the group has made a case for efficient and valid community policing.

The Commander, General Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Navy Captain Umar Bakori (retd), in a press statement, Friday in Abuja, condoled with the government and people of Borno state over the loss.

The statement read in part: “On behalf of the National Executive Council and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, let me express my heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Borno state over the Saturday’s killing of 43 farmers by Boko Haram terrorists.

“We, as members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria specifically commiserate with the Governor Of Borno state, Professor Babagana Zulum, and all the family members of the slain farmers.

“While we pray to the Almighty Allah to repose the souls of the farmers
who got killed while lawfully fending for themselves and their families, we urge the federal government to ensure prompt arrest of the killers with a view to securing quick dispensation of justice.”

Bakori further stated that the latest massacre in Borno state should
serve as a reminder for urgent need to formalise the activities of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria across the country to complement the police in the task of securing lives and properties, and most importantly build a robust intelligence gathering among the locals for an efficient and valid community policing, which forms the primary responsibility of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
