Society condemns North Korea’s nuclear weapon programme

Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) and other chemical societies and organisations have condemned North Korea’s Nuclear Weapon Programme, saying it “poses unimaginable threats to a safe world.” National Vice President and Chairman Organising Committee of the Society, Prof. Sunday Okeniyi, made the condemnation at a press briefi ng on the occasion of CSN’s 40th Annual International Conference in Kaduna at the weekend.

According to him, the 2017 International Conference being organized by the Society is tagged: ‘Kadacity 2017’, with the theme: “Green Chemistry as a Catalyst for Economic Growth and National Security.” Speaking on the dangers of North Korea’s Nuclear Weapon Programme, he said: “Th e Chemical Association of Nigeria in line with its mandate and in cooperation with Chemical Societies all over the world, including the international Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry had earlier came out at a point with our own thinking about North Korea Nuclear Weapon Program.

“In fact, at the 40th Annual Global Conference of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry of which I was in attendance in Brazil, this was greatly discussed and all over reports are being written and sent to governments in the European Union and governments of the commonwealth on the implications involved by North Korea developing chemical and nuclear weapon. We, in the Chemical Society of Nigeria and other Chemistry body worldwide outrightly condemned it.”
