Sokoto council chairmen appeal for completion of water projects

Contractors handling 1.5 million gallons Semi Urban Water Project awarded by Sokoto state government through joint account in Tureta and Binji local government areas have been called upon to return to site and ensure speedy completion of the project.

Speaking to newsmen during the Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ  local governments projects monitoring tour, the council chairmen lamented that similar projects in other local government areas  have been completed and put to use. 

Expressing his displeasure over the negative development, the Tureta local government coumcil chairman , Alhaji Abubakar Salihi, said the cotractor was able to drill 10 wells before he abandoned the project.

He spoke through the vice chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Dan Malam Tsamiya, and said people of Tureta town are experiencing acute shortage of water.

He added that the boreholes that are currently feeding the town cannot provide adequate water to the population in the area.

He commended the governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for renovation of Tureta General Hospital, construction of Abuja type hospital and construction of additional blocks of classrooms in primary/ secondary schools.
