‘Sokoto govt contributes N31.5m monthly to Zakat c’ttee’

No fewer than 10, 000 needy have been assisted in various forms of assistance by the Sokoto state Zakkat and Endowment Committee, its chairman, Malam Lawal Maidoki, has disclosed.
Maidoki said the committee was set up by present administration to collect zakkat and distribute same to the categories of people as enunciated in the Holy Qur’an.

He admonished wealthy Muslims about the repercussions of a refusal to give out Zakkat, saying that the institution of Zakkat and endowment in Islam was also targeted at promoting love and peaceful co-existence amongst the needy and wealthy.
On the activities and achievements of the committee, the chairman said it received N31.5 million monthly as contributions from the state government to carry out its activities.

He said: “Sokoto state government support s my committee with N 31.5 million each month to carry out its activities. It also gives us N 45. 5 million monthly to, on its behalf, distribute it to the 6,923 registered physically challenged people across the state.”
He added that the committee earmarks N2 million monthly to take care of patients at the Neuro and Psychiatric Hospital, Kware.
He urged Muslims Ummah to endeavour to pay their Zakkat in time to any of its 86 branches spread across the 23 local government areas.
