The North-west Zonal Director, National Housing Programme in the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Architect Joseph Toluhi Wednesday said the National Housing Programme project in Sokoto state has reached the 95 percent completion stage.
Toluhi who spoke while on the inspection tour to the project site in Sokoto, also pledged the commitment of the Federal Government to the provision of decent and affordable housing for Nigerians.
The zonal director, who also said government was sensitive to the well being of its citizens, expressed satisfaction with the level of work done in the state.
He said: “Government is committed to tackling housing deficits in Nigeria, and that is why it has encouraged all and sundry to be part of this project. Government has blazed the trail by embarking on this kind of project.
” This explains why it is building houses in virtually all states except in two due to non-allocation of land for the project. However, houses are built in the benefitting states according to their culture and weather conditions.
” I must say that I am pleased and happy with the level of progress of work on this site because we have a very high level of completion. Most of the buildings have been completed.” Out of 20 contractors, only four are yet to roof up their buildings and we have up to 12 of them that have already attained level of practical completion.
“This means, we are ready to move into these buildings. The infrastructure, I mean, power supply, road and water supply have also reached a very high level of completion stage”.
The project team leader in the state Mr Iliya Kastuda Mathias, who said the work had reached 95 percent completion, explained that provision of worship centers, school and market were later considered in addition to the provision of security.
Also, the zonal director inspected the similar project in Gusau, Zamfara state, which he said is at 65 percent completion stage.
