Sokoto state University would propose additional undergraduate programmes for the 2019 academic session, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sani Muhammed Dangoggo, has disclosed.
Dangoggo, who made the disclosure yesterday when he received members of Senior Course 40, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, during a study tour to the state, said the new courses were in the faculties of medical sciences, engineering, agriculture, law and environmental sciences.
According to him, the institution is currently undergoing accreditation exercise by the National Universities Commission to accredit its 23 degree programmes.
He said the programmes are part of the implementation of the institution’s second phase development plan which was planned for its phase II from 2019/20 to 2023/24 academic sessions.
He said the accreditation exercise was being carried out by the National Universities Commission (NUC) “which will end in first week of December, 2017.”
Dangoggo also told the visitors that the university was licensed in 2009 by the NUC and began academic activities in 2013/2014 and about to graduate its first set of students.
In the same vein, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, who had early led the Oba of Benin to the University on inspection tour, requested him to sponsor Edo state students to study in the institution.
He said such decision would further strengthen the bond of heritage and peaceful co-existence that exist between the Sokoto caliphate and Benin Kingdom.
