Artist gives out free mystery tattoos to brave customers in London
A famous tattoo artist offered his services free of charge in London — but customers were not allowed to see the design until it was finished.
Scott Campbell, who has tattooed celebrities including Heath Ledger, Courtney Love and Orlando Bloom, said his “Whole Glory” project at Lazarides Gallery in the Covent Garden district called on people interested in free tattoos to put an arm through a hole in a wall.
Campbell, on the other side of the wall, then tattooed the customers’ arms without giving them any input on the design or allowing them to see the progress until it was finished.
“Anyone who wants can stick their arm through a hole and I will tattoo it. I apply whatever design I feel the appendage needs, and the recipient has no insight as to what it is until it is completed and they pull their arm out of the hole. There is no communication and no contact other than the tattoo,” Campbell told ITV News.
“It’s a chance for people to not take their physical selves too seriously, and take part in an exchange of faith that will literally change who they are for the rest of their life,” he said.
