South-west govs, traditional rulers, others meet in Ibadan, endorse ban on open grazing

Governors of the South-west states and prominent traditional rulers from the region and Security Chiefs on Saturday endorsed ban on open grazing.

Chairman of the South-west Governors’ Forum and the Ondo state governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) made this known in Ibadan at the end of the meeting

Gov Akeredolu stressed that though the meeting was at the instance of the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, who could not fly out of Abuja due to bad weather.

According to Gov Akeredolu, despite the inability of the Chief of Staff to the President, the South West governors and the traditional rulers thereafter decided to meet to appraise the security situation in the zone.

The Ondo state governor then read a three point communiqué agreed to after the meeting by the governors and the traditional rulers

 “That the meeting supported the decision of the National Economic Council (NEC) on forest management; that the nation’s boarders need to be fully secured and protected;  that open grazing must be checked and  looked at and that media practitioners must assist the country to end fake news,” he said.

The meeting held inside the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s office, Agodi, Ibadan was attended by Goverors Seyi Makinde; Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun  State, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of South-West, David Folawiyo, and Security Chiefs serving in Oyo State.

Others included the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi , Akarigbo of Remo, Oba Babatunde Ajayi; Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, Oba Fredrick Akinrutan; Olubadan of Ibadan,  Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunnjso 1; and Olugbon of Orilegbon,  Oba Francis Olusola Alao.
