Southern Kaduna crisis: Empowerment’ll reduce risk of violence – Prof Agang

Government has been urged to beam its searchlight on the economic empowerment, which is critical to dousing the tension and crisis in the Southern Kaduna communities.
Professor Sunday Agang of ECWA Theological Seminary, Kagoro, made the call while reading a feedback report in a peace gathering between Muslims and Christians of Southern Kaduna in Kafanchan, Jama’a local government area of Kaduna state over the weekend.
The peace gathering, which was held at Grand Multipurpose Hall, also called the attention of local, state and federal governments to create a platform where both farmers and herders will be brought together to foster understanding and peaceful coexistence among them.
Aganga added that the youths, women, traditional and religious leaders have a vital role to play in promoting peace coexistence and conflict prevention, hence called for their inclusion in building structures for sustainable peace in the area.
Agang also attributed breakdown of social relationship, lack of proper parental upbringing among others as the basic challenges that hindered development of peace in the area.
The convener and co-convener of the gathering, Revered Gideon Para Malam and Alhaji Muhammad Kabir Qassim, also called on traditional rulers to demonstrate equity and justice to all without discrimination on the basis of ethnic or religious sentiments, urging the youths to use social media to spread peace messages rather than hate speeches.
They also attributed provocative and hate speech, unemployment, ignorance and injustice, religion manipulation among others as also the challenges to peace in Southern Kaduna and urged local, state and federal governments to administer justice to all.
