Speak out against demolition, Kpaduma communities tell NASS members

Natives of Kpaduma communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Wednesday called on the senator representing FCT, Phillip Aduda, House of Representatives members and all area council chairmen to speak up against moves to demolish communities in the territory.

The natives in their numbers at a peaceful protest march in the community Tuesday, said the time of silence from their representatives is over, as they no longer sleep peacefully at night because of the threat.

Secretary of the communities, Simon Baba-Yerimah told journalists on behalf of the natives during the protest march that the evil plan to render them homeless in Abuja through demolition is unacceptable.

“We are natives of FCT and we have been here before Nigeria got her independence. We welcome the development of the FCT, but we have been taken for granted and now, they want to render us homeless from our ancestry land. It is not right.

“Indigenes of FCT should be given their respect. This is the only land we have; we do not have any other place to call our home. Our ancestors were buried here. The interest of the natives should be protected. The government should stop this kind of marginalisation policy that will not promote peace within the localities of Nigeria.

“We are appealing to the FCT minister, who is the governor of our land to call to order the taskforce involved in invading and demolishing communities. The actions of the taskforce is not going well with us, because we are been denied of our right as citizens of Nigeria and indigenes of Abuja.

“I am also calling on our Senator, House of Representatives members and council chairmen, that this is the right time to join hands and speak out against this demolition of our ancestral land. We are no longer feeling save in our land,” he said.
