Speaker: Ajimobi, Reps-elect back Gbajabiamila

Governor  Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state and members of the House Representatives elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the state have rallied around the ambition of Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila to become the speaker of the 9th House of Representatives.

The out-going governor and the members-elect said Monday that they were backing the majority leader who was two weeks ago chosen by the APC national leadership as its sole candidate for the position of speaker.

A member-elect, Prince Akeem Adeyemi made this position known in a statement issued on behalf of the Oyo APC Representatives caucus.

The statement said the decision was reached after the governor held a meeting with Reps-elect on Sunday evening at his private residence in Oluyole Estate, Ibadan where they resolved to support Gbajabiamila for speakership position.

Adeyemi, who represents Oyo East/Oyo/West/Afijio/Atiba federal constituency, and also the APC South-west Coordinator of Gbajabiamila Speakership Campaign Council, thanked the governor for providing “a sound leadership and positive direction for the party.

He stated the governor specifically urged the lawmakers to support the aspiration of Gbajabiamila as the next Speaker of the House in the ninth assembly.

Meanwhile, the statement further said the lawmaker on their part promised the governor their full cooperation after each member had spoken in acceptance of the governor’s endorsement of the house leader.

“Consequently, APC members-elect from Oyo state pledged unflinching loyalty to the party and promised to abide by the party’s decision on the choice of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the 9th Assembly,” he added.
