Speaker tasks South-west lawmakers-elect

The Speaker of Ogun Assembly, Mr Suraj Adekunbi, Thursday urged newly elected lawmakers in Ogun, Lagos and Oyo Houses of Assembly to work for the socio-economic development of the South-west zone.

Adekunbi spoke in Abeokuta at the first orientation workshop organised for members-elect in the South-west zone.

He said that representing their constituencies was a great honour and a call for them to make laws that would impact positively on the people.

The speaker said the expectations of the people were higher than in the last dispensation in terms of socio-economic and infrastructural development.

He urged the new lawmakers to prepare adequately for the task ahead by attracting necessary investments to their various states and the country at large.

The speaker commended the Konrad Adenaur Stiftung (KAS), the organiser of the programme, for promoting democratic governance.

In his remarks, the Resident Representative of KAS, Dr Vladmir Kreck, pointed out that legislative activity in the country’s democracy was essential in sustaining socio- political growth and development.

Kreck added that the legislative arm plays a fundamental role in strengthening the country’s democratic rule. (NAN)
