Speakership: Aspirants woo opposition members

Aspirants seeking speakership of the 9th House of Representatives Wednesday faced caucus of the opposition with different promises of how they intend to run the coming assembly.

However, the endorsed candidate of leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Femi Gbajabiamila, was absent at the late evening meeting which held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. He was reported to be consulting with stakeholders in the south east area of the country over his ambition.

A suggestion that efforts were made by Gbajabiamila, ostensibly to delay last night’s meeting so he could be in attendance could not be confirmed immediately, though all aspirants including Gbajabiamila were said to have been “duly informed of the event”.

One of the ranking PDP members and organisers of the event, Hon Tajudeen from Kogi state said “all aspirants were duly consulted and agreed to the days between Tuesday and Wednesday”.

On ground to address the caucus were Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, (APC Abia), Segun Odebunmi, Olajide Olatubosun, and John Dyegh from Benue state.

The aspirants, using different fronts, told the opposition caucus what they would be putting forward for the coming house.
