Speakership: Group backs new entrant, opposes imposition

As build up to the inauguration of the 9th National Assembly thickens, a group has drummed support for the election of Hon Olajide Olatubosun, as speaker of the House of Representatives.

Coming under the aegis of “North Central Interreligious, Intertribal Political Forum”, the group, which announced its endorsement of the lawmaker for the position Sunday, in Abuja, said he has the intellectual capacity to effectively lead the House.

The group also advised that members should be allowed to make their choices among the contenders.

Olatubosun, who is said to in the coming days, formally throw his hat into the ring for the race will bring the number of aspirants who are still maintaining their bid, to six.

The group, through its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Mike Odeh, said Nigerians should rise against any form of imposition as the house is inaugurated, noting that it was ” time to engage a leadership with acceptable mien who can be trusted with power and ability to carry his colleagues along…”.

He said the organisation has taken its time to “look at those who have shown interest and have come to the conclusion that none of them is better qualified for the position than Olatubosun”.

Further, the group believes that, Olatubosun is a second term member of the House from Oyo state, stands the chance of winning.
