Speculation mounts on Wike’s resignation

There is heightened speculation about the imminent resignation of the supervising Minister of Education, Barrister Ezebunwo Nyeso Wike, to enable him to execute his governorship ambition in Rivers state, come 2015.

A social media report on the planned resignation, carried last weekend on- line, had sparked talks amongst members of staff in the ministry in Abuja, who preferred to discuss the matter in hush tones.
In a swift reaction, the supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike, denied the rumour making the rounds that he had resigned his appointment as minister.

A statement by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister, Simeon Nwakaudu, said the report being circulated online that the minister had resigned his appointment was false in its entirety, adding that “it is planted report by mischief makers.”
Nwakaudu said: “Wike last Saturday represented the President at the 43rd convocation of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and was in the office to attend to official functions in the Federal Ministry of Education.

“On Thursday, he will be performing the ground breaking ceremony for the special vocational School in Delta State and will next week hold a town hall meeting for Federal Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in the North-east at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.”
