Sports for peace initiative: Twenty Bucks, Jalo Okwor strike accord, to organise football tourney for PDP, APC, others

As part of efforts geared towards sensitising Nigerians on peace path ahead of 2023 general elections using sports, Twenty Bucks Creative and Jalo Okwor Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

At the signing ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday October 12, 2022, Chief Executive Officer/founder of Twenty Bucks Creative Charbel Olusanya Jarrouge said the foundations came together to forge a common front in rallying Nigerians, particularly political parties before 2023 elections.

Jarrouge disclosed that by December 2022, a football tournament will be organised between various political parties including People’s Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), among others.

He said, “Our focus is Campaign against violent election, “Nigeria 2023”

“And our Goal is to host a football tournament in December 2022 and the teams include all political parties in Nigeria, which are (APC, PDP, LABOUR, NNPP, AAC, etc)

“For those that are willing to participate in this tournament, we would contact the youth leaders to organise a team that would represent their party for the event.

“On our end we can ensure Nigerians a fair game, by providing a foreign Referee that doesn’t support any political party and doesn’t even know (who Yoruba be, who Hausa be and who Igbo be)

“We would also ensure a safe environment during the event by liaising with all Armed forces during that period and we also call out to all the Group Leaders of each Political Party to sign a (Peace Declaration) so we all work hand in hand to ensure a peaceful and successful Tournament

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank my (Family, Friends, Adamawa Plaza and most importantly our Sponsors of this event), which are (lilies salon and spa, mosville energy, mia engineering, View Point Hospital, Trim & Prissy, Down-Town, Bodyline, ritji café, house of buray and mofft brand).

“Our plans include, Inviting international Scouts and Agents to empower the youth

“We are also introducing the foreign standard of entertainment by performing during half time (just like the American NFL)

“I would take this opportunity to call out to all famous artist that are willing to participate in this event such as (Davido, Burna Boy, Wiz Kid, Tiwa Savage, dija etc….)

“I also call out to all form of organizations, Business men, private firms to support our cause.

“We would also give opportunity to good upcoming artist to show case themselves.”

He also called on the youth to shun violence at all cost.

Also speaking, the National coordinator of Jalo Okwor foundation, Stephen Ushie, enjoined youth groups of political parties, office aspirants and their supporters, security agencies among others to drive peaceful message concerning the upcoming elections in Nigeria.

Ushie commended the efforts of the Institute For Peace and Conflict Resolution and civil society organisations for steadily promoting peace in the country.
