Standardisation key to Nigeria’s service delivery – SERVICOM boss

National Coordinator / Chief Executive Officer SERVICOM, Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli has said standardisation of service delivery processes will drive service improvement in MDAs as contained in the seven thematic areas of National Action Plan (NAP11) of the Open Government Partnership initiatives in Nigeria.

Mrs Akajemeli made this disclosure when she paid an advocacy visit to the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu in Abuja recently.

National coordinator stating, in a press release issued by the Public Awareness Manager SERVICOM, Mrs. Henrietta Okokon, if we must have improvement in service delivery processes in Nigeria through the Open Government Partnership initiatives, we must embrace standards that are measurable in our various service windows where we have an interface with Nigerian citizens.

Akajemeli informed the minister of the role SERVICOM plays after a careful study and review of NAP 1. SERVICOM, she said, discovered that the underlying goal of Mr President’s commitment under the OGP initiative was to offer service delivery improvements to the people of Nigeria.

According to her, this falls squarely within the SERVICOM mandate, consequently making the improved service delivery thematic area of commitment 15 and 16 to be included in NAP 11 with SERVICOM as a lead agency with an implementation period of 2 years; 2019 – 2021 respectively.

She further stated that for the OGP initiatives to succeed, the way forward is to have a full buy in by key public bureaucrats, high synergy with development agencies and partners and implantation of the revised standards in service charters by MDAs.

The coordinator called for institutionalisation of SERVICOM as a cadre in MDAs which will positively give MSU’s staff the zeal to embrace and drive the initiative effectively, as well as an enactment of legislative instruments to back the Improved Service Delivery Initiatives (ISDI), and massive citizens/ customer s awareness campaigns to demand for quality service delivery as a right.

In his remarks, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said for the OGP initiative to attain its goals and objectives, SERVICOM should be at the centre of the administration for ease of government businesses.

He further stated that for service delivery initiatives to be successful, it requires additional budgetary provisions to drive the process, and would also tackle the menace of corruption in Nigeria if fully embraced and implemented, as well as engage Nigerians to be a part of governance.
