Start your day with a healthy breakfast

Many of us are usually in a hurry to get to the office in the morning or take the children to school without breakfast. The next time you rush out the door in the morning without something to eat, consider this: Skipping breakfast can set you up for overeating later in the day. A healthy breakfast meal, on the other hand, can give you energy, satisfy your appetite, and set the stage for smart decisions all day long.

Banana
There’s nothing like a banana at breakfast to keep those mid-morning cravings at bay. The yellow fruit – especially when they’re still a touch green – are one of the best sources of resistant starch, a healthy carbohydrate that keeps you feeling fuller longer.
You can take two or three bananas, make a smoothie or slice it up and add it to cereal or oatmeal. It will add natural sweetness, so you may not need additional sugar.
Thanks to a healthy dose of potassium, an electrolyte that helps lower blood pressure naturally, bananas are a particularly good choice for people with hypertension.
Many Nigerians will probably scoff at this, but if you want to live and eat healthy in our ‘fire-brigade’ world, you may have to consider this.

Whole-grain bread
Compared with refined white bread, whole-grain varieties are a better source of fibre and many nutrients, including iron, B vitamins, and vitamin E. They’ve also been shown to lower the risk of a number of chronic diseases such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. For breakfast, try a whole-wheat English muffin or toast.
There is no doubt that many of us think whole-grain bread is usually for older people and those with diabetes, but as aforementioned, it lowers the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
These breakfast suggestions are very easy to get, so you wouldn’t have to go to much trouble to get a healthy dose of breakfast.
