State assemblies speakers back anti-corruption war

Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has backed the anti-corruption crusade of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Its chairman, Hon. Abdulmumuni Ismaila Kamba, from Kebbi, who was elected on Friday, last week, in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, said their agenda “is to seek financial autonomy of the state legislatures and their political independence.”

The Conference, which has Hon. Martins Azubuike (Abia state) as deputy chairman, Hon. Adamu Dala Dogo (Yobe state) as treasurer, Hon. Victor Edoror (Edo state) as financial secretary and Hon. Nasiru Abubakar (Gombe state) as vice-chairman, North-east, said “together the nation can make the difference.”
Kamba, in a statement in Abuja, said that partnership with government at all levels would help to promote peace, security and harmony in the country.

He added that the plan of the state speakers “is to have a common legislative agenda, have a legislative capacity building programs for state lawmakers and to build a permanent secretariat of the conference.”

The chairman said he believed in the readiness of President Buhari, the governors and the leadership of the National Assembly to bring positive changes to Nigerians.
Other newly elected members of the conference were: Hon. Kabiru Alhassan (Kano), vice-chairman (North-west), Hon. Peter Azi (Plateau), vice-chairman (North-central), Hon. Michael Adeyemi (Oyo), vice-chairman (South-west) and Hon. Rita Maduagwu (Anambra), vice-chairman (South-east).
