State govts urged to promote tourism industry

Director-General, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Mrs. Sally Mbanefor, has called on state governments to launch tourism centres in their states to create jobs for youhs.

She made the call during an interactive session with Waka-About Grassroots TV, Radio and print network programme in Abuja.
According to her, the federal government, in its determined efforts to develop and promote tourism into an economically viable industry, has evolved a tourism policy.

She added that the main thrust of the policy “is to make Nigeria a prominent tourism destination in Africa, generate foreign exchange, encourage even development, promote tourism base rule urban integration and foster social cultural unity amongst the various regions of the country through the promotion of domestic and international tourism.”
Mbanefor said her office would launch grassroots tourism in June, this year, adding that the secret of her success was that she carried the staff, especially her directors, along in the discharge of her duties.

The director-general was also conferred with the award of excellence performance in the area of grassroots tourism in the country.
She urged parents to teach their children their mother language, saying that that should form part of the subjects in “our education curriculum.”
