The Tor Tiv and chairman of Benue state council of traditional rulers, Prof James Ayatse yesterday appealed to the federal government and security agencies to step up their efforts to stop the killings in Benue state.
The Tor Tiv, who stated this in an interview with newsmen in his palace in Gboko said despite the presence of security in the flash point, his people were still being killed.
He said though the federal government has made some efforts, more still needed to be done.
“Federal government has made some efforts but I will be deceiving myself and people if I say the effort is good enough.
“These attacks by the herdsmen on my people are coordinated, they are not short of ethnic cleansing.
“These attacks on my people are barbaric and senseless, targeted only at taking over our land. Until the herdsmen stop killing my people I cannot say they have done enough,” he said.
The Tor Tiv appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to personally visit the state to see for himself what the herdsmen have done, saying that those he sent to assess the situation might not give him the true picture of the magnitude of the crisis.
“At a time like this, the people of the state need consolation of the president, even if he comes and spends only 10 minutes they will be consoled,” he said.
