Step up your security strategy, Uzoewulu appeals to Buhari

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon Olisa Uzoewulu has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari’ (PMB) to step up his strategy in the fight against insecurity in the country.

Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, while reacting to the security situation in the country, Uzoewulu’ who is also the national coordinator, Awakening the Sleeping Giant Initiative noted that it was time the federal government rejigged its strategy.

While deploring the extant security strategy being deployed by the federal government, he said: “The head of security or the commander-in-chief takes blame for whatever happened. Our security problem did not come up today, what is the cause for security upheaval in the country? Why don’t we solve it from the root? What is the cause of militancy in the south  south? What is the cause of banditry in the North and what is the cause of unemployment? You keep doing one  thing, no result. It means we are dealing with the symptoms and not the cause of our security challenge. So the more we continue to deal with the symptoms, the problems will continue. As long as you are dealing with the symptoms, you aggravate the issue, we haven’t been able to deal with the cause, when we deal with the cause, the thing will stop.

“The more you stay in a particular place for some time, diminishing return sets in . It is not a personal thing. Let there be fresh ideas as a way of solving the problems. Now if you have security chiefs that are from the same zone, they will see others negatively, if you have a complete set up and every body is represented, it helps in solving the problems. New ideas and strategy is required in dealing with such situations. If you have people from a particular zone, they will fail because they don’t have knowledge and solution of other zones”

On the activities of the non governmental organisations, he said, “We came together and looked at Nigeria’s problem, there is no Nigerian problem that has not been researched or talked about  ,we came up to talk about solution and not description of Nigeria problems. I mean solutions of poverty, unemployment, power failure and all the rest. Let us come up with solution, not teaching as if we are in  the class room. We know that the problem is tribalism , corruption and nepotism.”
