Stock market opens on a positive note, gains N57bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Exchange NGX yesterday opened week on a positive trend, gaining N57 billion.

Market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.20 per cent to N28.214 trillion from N28.157 trillion reported the previous day. The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 104.82 basis points to 52319.94 point from 52215.12 points it closed on Friday.

Investors exchanged 116.280 million shares valued at N3.464 billion in 4525 deals against 190.095 million shares cost N4.129 billion in 3893 deals.

An analysis of the investment showed that Seplat Energy led gainers table during the day, increasing by 10 per cent to N1430.50, Cornerstone Insurance followed with a gain of 8.77 per cent to N0.62, RTBriscoe added 8.11 per cent to N0.40, Wema Bank gained 8.95 per cent to N4.00, Fidson Health care increased by 2.21 per cent to N9.90.

On the contrary, CWG topped losers chart, declining 10 per cent to N0.81, Academy Press trailed with drop of 9.50 per cent to N2.00, Honey Well Flour fell by 9.09 per cent to N2.50, Nahco dipped 8.81 per cent to N6.00, Regal Insurance down by 7.41 per cent to N0.25.
