Stock market slumps further, loses N426bn

Trading actvuties on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday moved further in a downward trend on low traded volume, shedding N426 billion.

Specifically, Market Capitalisation of listed equities declined by 1.96 per cent to N21.289 trillion from N21.715 trillion reported in the previous day. The NSE All Share Index also depreciated by 814.15 basis points to 40696.01 point from 41510.16 points traded on Tuesday.

Investors exchanged 366.858 million shares valued at N5.842 billion in 5718 deals against 305.927 million shares worth N3.951 billion in 4969 deals.

A review of the transactions showed that

Niger Insurance led gainers table during the day in percentage term, growing by 10 per cent or N0. 02 kobo to close at N0.22 kobo, Champion Breweries followed with a gain of 9.82 per cent (N0.27 kobo) to close at N3.02 kobo, Wapic Insurance appreciated by 7.47 per cent (N0.04 kobo) to close at N0.58 kobo, Academy Press up by 6.06 per cent (N0.02 kobo) to close at N0.35 kobo, while Guinness Nigeria PLC added 4.83 per cent (0.95 kobo) to close at N20.60 kobo.
