Stop attacking Jonathan, AMAC chair tells opposition

Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), FCT chapter, Hon. Micah Jiba, has commended the President Goodluck Jonathan-led government over what he described as “a feasible performance” through his transformation agenda, and called on opposition parties to stop attacking him.
T

he ALGON chairman, who also the chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), gave this commendation during his Democracy Day address, saying that the few years of President Jonathan in office had achieved laudable projects across the country.
He said: “For example, when you travel across the country you will see the visible government projects delivered by this present administration; places like Abuja- Lokoja road, Akure – Ore, Ondo expressway, Second Niger Bridge, ongoing power transformation projects, the subsidy programme and many more.

“Despite the security challenges faced by his administration, I like to say that Mr. President remains the most faithful president Nigeria ever had. We, in FCT here, have been duly carried along by our amiable Minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed, through the newly introduced Land for Infrastructure Swap system as a model for accelerated development of FCT through opening of 10 more districts.
“The advantages of the model include the discouragement of land speculation and land freezing; freeing of public funds for critical sectors of development and social services like health, transportation, security and others.”

He further called on Nigerians to stop associating themselves with “enemies of this administration to attack the president,” adding that “it’s a calculated attempt to discredit the good work of his government.”
“When you look at the American style of democracy once you have won the election all other citizens will humbly themselves and mobilise their support for such person no matter their religion or ethnic inclination, but in Nigeria here reverse is case, all what the opposition parties does is to develop strategy to pull down the government.”
