Stop dragging NURTW into politics, Yasin cautions members

The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers  (NURTW), Alhaji Najeem Yasin, has cautioned members against dragging the union into active participation in party politics.
Addressing delegates at the Zonal meeting of the union in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital, at the weekend, Yasin stressed that the union was apolitical association.

According to him, officials of the union with keen interest in politics should get ready to leave as the union’s platform could not be used to achieve political ambitions.
“A member of the NURTW as an individual, has constitutional right to engage in politics, but could not use the name of the union as his political breeding home,” he said.

The president also urged politicians to scrap the idea of recruiting members of the NURTW, especially at the motor parks as political thugs to be used to interrupt electioneering proceedings across the country.
Yasin also announced the relocation of the union’s zonal office operating in Kaduna to Gusau.
