Stop killing, destroying public properties, Police DIG tells hoodlums in Ebonyi

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Celestine Okoye, Wednesday, called on hoodlums to stop destroying public properties in Ebonyi state.

This is even as he said police is yet to know the number of officers and men killed in the state during the invasion of the state by hoodlums.

Okoye who is in charge of ICT police Headquarters Abuja and Southeast supervisor noted that destroying police properties meant for securing the people was not the way of getting government attention.

The DIG spoke to journalists after a brief meeting with Governor David Umahi in his office at Government House Abakaliki.

He said, “I came to discuss peace, how we can bring this destruction to an end. My advice to them is for them to stop, they are destroying their own property they struggled to build.

“Destroying these properties is not destroying government, have you forgotten that most of these police stations where built by communities, some even wealthy individuals in your communities built it to attract security for you. Instead of being grateful to them for bringing security you are busy destroying them.

“Sometimes some of these properties were built on loan, not officially located for it but bought by individuals to bring succour to the communities.

“Now nobody is talking about the number of policemen that was killed but the individual, so police has no right to live, I am not happy.”The number of policemen killed is yet to be known, and we are yet to know the people that attacked the state, investigation will tell.”
