Stop visiting MDAs, Na’Aba cautions lawmakers


Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Umar Ghali Na’Aba has advised committees of the House to stop the habit of visiting government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).


The former speaker in a good will message on behalf of former presiding officers on Wednesday, when 109 standing and special committees of the House were inaugurated said “we feel embarrassed when you watch committees visiting parastatals, they are supposed to come here (National Assembly).”


According to him, “it is not good for the legislators to troop into parastatals. National Assembly members are not auditors”, adding that where such agencies’ attention are needed, they should be invited. “I’m sorry if this offend some of you, but this is what we feel”, he stated.


Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has inaugurated the 105 standing committees, and Four special committees constituted, before the House proceeded on its annual recess.
