Strange disease kills 10, others hospitalised in Jigawa

 

An unidentified illness has claimed the lives of no fewer than 10 people in Babura local government area of Jigawa state, while about a dozen others are currently receiving treatment at the Cotage hospital, Bubura.
Also, a similar illness was recorded at both Ganji and Maule villages, where about five people were reported to have died.
This is coming within a month, after serious cases of Cerebral Spinal Meningitis (CSM), claimed several lives of children at Majiya village, in Taura local government area of the state.
Investigations carried out by Blueprint, revealed that the victims started with complains of severe headaches, stomach disorder accompanied with vomiting within 48 hours, after which the victims lost their lives.
A resident of the area, Hardo Umar, said three people from Maule village, are presently receiving treatments while a family man has already lost his life.
However, when contacted the council Chairman of Babura, Alhaji Muhammed Ibrahim, confirmed that no fewer than ten people have died of the illness while several other victims are presently receiving treatments at the Babura general hospital.
The Chairman said health workers have been mobilised across the affected areas to curtail the menace.
He said: “So far nobody could ascertain the actual cause of this disease, until results from samples taken from the victims by the state ministry of health comes out”
