Strike: Ibadan poly students give ASUP, Ajimobi 24-hr ultimatum

Students of the Polytechnic, Ibadan, have given the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and Governor Abiola Ajimobi 24 hours’ ultimatum within which to suspend the ongoing strike or face their wrath.

The students, during the over three hours protest, vowed to storm the Oyo state secretariat housing the governor’s office should the strike continued after the ultimatum.
As early as 7am, the students, numbering hundreds, sealed off all the entrances into the main campus chanting songs condemning the ASUP strike.

The students during the over three hours protest carried placards bearing inscriptions such as “Call off the Strike! Save Our Future,” “We are Tired of Staying at Home,” “Light no Dey, Water no Dey.”
Speaking with journalists during the protest, the students’ union president, Mr Iyiola Oladimeji, said “the time has come for students to kick against the strike as a result of neglect of the students’ plight by the government and the ASUP.”

He said: “We can’t continue to tolerate this continuous neglect. They have to resolve whatever is between them and call off this strike. We are tired of staying at home and wasting away. Students are just idling away.”
