The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has summoned an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC)- the organ that has given the mandate for the ongoing industrial action by the union, for Wednesday 19, May 2021.
The workers have been on nationwide strike for over a month to protest the failure of state governments to grant autonomy to the state judiciaries in accordance with the constitutional provisions.
Several meetings at the instance of the minister of labour and employment, Dr Chris Ngige didn’t yield any positive result as the workers insisted they can’t negotiate the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Earlier in a communiqué jointly signed by the union’s deputy president of the union, Comrade Emmanuel Abioye and general secretary, Comrade Isaiah Adetola at end of the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting , JUSUN rejected the offer by the federal government team.
They insisted all the workers wanted was for the accountant general of the Federation to deduct what is due for the Judiciary from source and remit same to the NJC for onward disbursement to various heads of courts.
The communiqué reads “NWC in session frown at the document emanated from the Nigeria Governors forum for not being consistent with the resolution arrived at with the Chief of Staff.
NWC in session further unanimously agreed that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) cannot be Negotiated, doctored, manipulated, and therefore must be obeyed.
NWC-in-session also agrecd that the establishment of the funds Inranagement law must be put in place by the 36 States of the Federation within the shortest possible time.
NWC-in-session agreed that the Accountant Gencral of the Federation shall deduct from source from the Federation Account, the budgetary allocation submitted to him by the 36 States Judiciaries October, 2020 and pay same directly to the National Judicial Council (NJCj for onward disbursement to the heads of court”.
