Rector of Al-Hikma Polytechnic New Karshi, Karu local government of Nasarawa state, Dr Ahmed Abdulrazaq, has said university lecturers now troop to private polytechnics and other tertiary institutions in search of part time teaching job.
Speaking to journalists at the main campus site of Al-Hikma Polytechnic, the rector said the prolonged Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, which accompanied non-payment of salaries over six months necessitated the job search for survival at the polytechnic.
Abdulrazaq, who said the institution is among the best private polytechnics in the country, pointed to the personnel, facilities and conducive environment of polytechnic for the rating.
He explained that, the institution, apart from its array of qualified lecturers, is also rated for professional courses offered to students, adding that, at the moment, sciences and professional courses offered, are among the competitive in any part of the world.
He said the courses are those that offer students with the opportunity to be self- employed and self-reliant after graduation.
“I can tell you that most of our graduates are not self-employed; they are employers of labour because of the training they receive here,” Dr. Abdulrazaq stated.
Abdulrazaq stated that the school provides accommodation for students based on first come first served and looks into the welfare of the lecturers while also providing best equipment and environment conducive for learning.
Asked to comment on general insecurity in the country, the rector said “both the main campus and the temporary sites are well secured and protected,” adding that with God on their side the school is not apprehensive of any breaches since it is free of cultism and other social vices.
