Student bags one year for breach of trust

A Kasuwan Nama Upper Area Court, Jos, yesterday sentenced a 31-year-old student, Dalhatu Mustapha, to one-year imprisonment for breach of trust and cheating.
The judge, Yahaya Mohammed, who did not give the convict option of fine, ordered him to pay N1.5million as compensation to the nominal complainant.
Mustapha had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge levelled against him and begged for leniency.
Prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gukwat, told the court that the case was reported on May 3, 2018, at the Laranto Police Station by one Deji Ayo of Akpata Street, Jos.
He told the court that the convict was entrusted with N1.5million to start a business of buying and selling of tricycles.
According to him, the convict collected the money and absconded, just as he also refused to call the complainant.
The Prosecutor said the offences are contrary to Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code
