Student losses arm to explosion in Ebonyi

An SS 2 student has lost one of his arms after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded at Glory Land High School, Azugwu , in Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi state on Thursday.

The explosion which took place during the break hour, was reported to have chopped off the left arm of an SS 2 student whose name was simply identified as Chibuike.

Blueprint learnt that other of students also sustained various degree of injuries.

While Chibuike was rushed to the emergency unit of the Alex –Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital,Abakaliki,others with minor injuries were treated at a medical facility around the area.

The incident which was said to have occurred at about 11 am on Thursday caused serious confusion and panic within the school and its vicinity.

When Blueprint visited the school at about 2:30 pm, the entrance gate was under lock and key, but our interaction with some students of the school  who was seen going home revealed  that the incident actually occurred at the school.

Confirming the incident, they said that Chibuike was the main victim, as he was playing with the device when it exploded.

‘’I was in the school when it exploded. I can’t tell what it was .But I saw Chibuike playing with the thing before it exploded. It is like he came to school with it. The thing chop off his left hand .He has been taken to the Hospital.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),Ebonyi Police Command, DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident , but said she was  yet to get official report from the DPO of Eke-Aba Police Station on the incident.

“The DPO has gone there, but he has not reported to us. So we are still waiting for him’’ Odah said.
