Students distance selves from plans to shut institution

The Student Union, Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, has distanced itself from plan to burn down the institution if the suspended Rector of the institution Dr. Silas Gyar, was reabsorbed by the state government.
It was alleged in the media recently that students of the school were threatening to shut down activities of the school as well as to even burn it if Nasarawa state government reinstate the rector, who was suspended over allegations of gross abused of office. Speaking with journalists yesterday in Lafia, President of the Students union, Japhath Magaji, said “ this publication is misleading and totally false and a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of students of the polytechnic”
. He noted that the state government had the power to decide who to work with by bringing the rector back if it is satisfied with his duties in the School, but we, as representatives of students, must ensure that our welfare was taken care of.
“The students’ union has no plan to close down the school in mass protest, or ever contemplated to burn down the school as alleged in some quarters. We distanced ourselves from such allegations and noany plan to resist government plan or action to bring Gyar back”, he said.
