Study Koran, enhance knowledge, Christian leaders urged

Chairman, Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Augustine Akubeze Tuesday admonished the leadership of  the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Edo state to study the Holy Koran in order to enhance their knowledge.

This was just as the cleric advocated that  the church must intensify its effort in empowering  youth,  economically and  get them involved in the things of God rather than leaving them out.

Akubeze said  the church has nothing against tradition and culture of the land but fetish practices, adding, “Therefore, Christians should know virtually about everything.”

“By the way, some of us who are Christians should also go and study Islam to know what they know. No knowledge is wasted. Study African Traditional Religion (ATR) because the church also respects traditions and culture but what the church is against is fetish practice,” he said.

Represented by the Parish Priest of St. Joseph Catholic Church Benin, the cleric gave the charge at the inauguration of the new executive of Edo state CAN.

According to him, “Africans respect lives, the church respect lives, the African respect age, the church respects age, the African celebrates anything that is good and the church does same.”

He also warned against clergymen who are in the habit of blackmailing and destroying homes with their messages to desist from it.

The newly elected Chairman of CAN, Bishop Oriname Oyonnude Kure pledged to serve “the body of Christ with uncommon commitment and lift up the body of Christ to a higher height.”
