SUG President: Police warn students against protest in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command, Sunday, read the riot act to students who are planning to stage a statewide solidarity rally for the Student Union President of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji who was arrested last week for alleged cultism.
Olatunji was arrested along side one Olarewaju Taiwo following a tip off by some residents that some group of people suspected to be cultists were sighted in the bush at Gbogidi area of Ilaro, Yewa South LGA, where they were allegedly initiating new members into the group.
The Police Command's Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement said the Command had uncovered plans by some "misguided" students in the state to stage the protest, warning that the Command would not hesitate to arrest anybody found disturbing the peace of the state.
According to the Police, the aim of the protest was to disrupt the semester examination of the polytechnic scheduled to start on Monday, February 17 and also to disturb the peace of the state in general.
"In view of this, the Ogun state Police Command wishes to advise parents and guardians to warn their children and wards not to involve themselves in any activity capable of disrupting the peace enjoyed by the good people of Ogun state as the Command will view such act with all seriousness.
"As an organisation saddled with the constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property, the Command will not fold its arms and watch some disgruntled elements make life difficult for law abiding citizens of the state," Oyeyemi said.
According to Oyeyemi, the state Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has also deployed a detachment of anti-riot policemen around thePolytechnic to ensure that the law abiding students of the institution go about their academic activities without any form of harassment or intimidation.
