Sokoto Sultan of Sokoto, and President General Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared today as 1st Day of Shawal, 1439 AH, marking the end of Ramadan fast.
Sultan Abubakar, who made the announcement in a special broadcast to the Muslims Ummah yesterday at his palace, said the new moon was sighted in various states of the country, including Sokoto, Kano, Jos, Borno Kaduna Zaria.
He added that reports of the sighting of the new moon were received from Muslim leaders and organisations across the nation.
According to him, the reports were duly verified and authenticated by the national and local Moon Sighting Committees.
The Sultan, therefore, called on the Muslim ummah to put into practice what they learnt during the period of Ramadan.
He charged them to pray for leaders and to continue to live peacefully with one another irrespective of tribal or religious differences.
