Sultan wants probe of Yobe school killings

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad, yesterday urged the federal government to take proactive measures that would protect the lives of Nigerians, end the incessant killings in parts of the country and halt acts of insurgency.

The Sultan, while reacting to the killing of dozens of students of FGC Buni Yadi in a statement signed by JNI Secretary General, Dr Khalid Aliyu, called on government to thoroughly probe the killings, especially against the backdrop of latest information, which stated that soldiers were withdrawn from the area on the eve of the killings.

He said: “JNI received with shock and distress the senseless killings at Federal Government College (FGC) Buni Yadi, Yobe state, by criminals and whatsoever is/are their motive they will not succeed, in-sha-Allah.
“The barbaric and heinous attack is utterly condemnable in its totality, considering the fact that just few days ago Bama, Izge, Malari, all in Borno state witnessed similar attacks by the terrorists.

“We expect the Federal Government of Nigeria to wake up to its responsibility of protecting lives and property of Nigerians, especially the North East and stop the diatribe. Human lives are sacred and must be treated so!
“The sporadic gunshots that ensued after setting the school ablaze is very worrisome and alarming, therefore JNI calls for practical probe that must bring such acts to an end.”
