Supplementary poll: Thugs attack 2 Kano Commissioners, Police arrest Yakasai

Kano State Commissioners of Information and his counterpart in the State Ministry of Finance, Alhaji Mohammed Garba and Aminu Danamu were on Saturday attacked by unidentified armed thugs, while supervising the conduct of governorship election re-run.

Speaking to Blueprint on the ordeal suffered by the duo, Comrade Garba said it was the divine intervention that saved their lives, as the wind screen of his car were smashed even before it was stopped alleging that it was the  Peoples Democratic Party’s sponsored bandits that sought to manhandle them at a polling unit located in Dala Local Government Area of the State.

According to him, the suspected  thugs had also laid ambush against a renowned  Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Liti Kulkul, who was at the polling units affirming that  he and the other two personalities who have been killed had they alighted from the car.

He however debunked a widely circulated allegation of foul-play on the part of the (APC).

Commissioner Garba said the ruling party never stopped PDP supporters from exercising thier constitutional rights, instead the disposition of the opposition party’s big shots had appeared like those that have conceded defeat.

“I can tell you people that during the last election, it all appeared that we relaxed and allowed the PDP to mobilize. This time around, we decided to rise to the challenge of mobilising our supporters, knowing that we are in a political dead heat, trying to assert and prove each other’s supremacy.

“One should not expect us to foolishly sit on the fence watching our opponent to outsmart us. Politics to me needs one’s commitment to achieve his goal. We too have admitted that we made mistakes and have learnt our lessons. We have adequately mobilised our people for the battle we have envisioned ahead of us,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Police officers on election duty Saturday arrested Kano State Commissioner for Special Duties, Muktar Yakasai.

Yakasai allegedly led some thugs to disrupt ongoing election at Yelwa Secondary School in Dala Local Government Area of the state..

Spokesperson of the Police in the state, Abdullahi Haruna could not be reached but witnesses said Yakasai was arrested alongside some of the thugs he came to the venue with.
